General Gynecology Questions

What services do you offer?
We provide comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care including annual exams, high and low risk pregnancies, contraception counseling, menopause management, infertility, and treatment of issues like abnormal bleeding, fibroids, PCOS, and more.

Are you accepting new patients?
Yes, we’re currently welcoming new patients! You can  request an appointment online or call our office to schedule.

What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Cigna, IEHP, Medicare, Medi-Cal, and more. Visit our appointments page for the full list.

Do I need a referral?
Most patients don’t need a referral, but some insurance plans require one. Please check with your insurance provider to confirm.

How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule online or give us a call. Telehealth appointments are also available when appropriate.

Annual Exams & Preventive Care

What’s included in a well-woman exam?
Your annual visit may include a breast exam, pelvic exam, Pap smear, and a discussion of your health, contraception, and screening needs.

How often should I get a Pap smear?
Pap smear guidelines vary by age and history, but most women need one every 3–5 years starting at age 21.

Do I need a gynecologist if I’m not sexually active?
Yes—gynecologic care is important for all women and can help detect issues early, even if you’re not sexually active.

How old do I have to be to see a gynecologist?
If you have a concern, you can be seen at any age, whether you’re 10 or 110 years old

What if I don’t identify as a woman?
Our mission is to be inclusive and provide every person that needs gynecologic care with the best and most comfortable care. If you have had gender affirming care in the past please bring your records.

Birth Control & Family Planning

What types of birth control do you offer?
We offer pills, patches, rings, IUDs, implants, injections, and permanent sterilization. We’ll help you decide what works best for you.

Can I get an IUD or implant at my first visit?
We typically schedule a follow-up for placement, but it depends on your cycle, health history, and insurance approval.

What’s the best birth control for me?
We’ll review your medical history, lifestyle, and goals to find the safest and most effective method for you. Bedsider.org has some great information to get you started.

Menstrual Concerns & Menopause

Is it normal to have heavy or painful periods?
Not necessarily—these can be signs of fibroids, endometriosis, or hormone imbalance. We offer thorough evaluation and treatment.

What options are available for irregular bleeding?
Treatment may include medication, hormonal therapy, or minimally invasive surgery depending on the cause.

What are the signs of menopause?
Common symptoms include hot flashes, mood swings, sleep disturbances, and menstrual changes. We offer support and treatment, including hormone therapy.

Sexual & Vaginal Health

Is vaginal discharge or odor normal?
Changes in discharge or odor can be normal, but persistent symptoms may indicate an infection.

Is it normal to have pain during sex?
Pain during sex is not normal. We offer compassionate care and treatment to help address the underlying cause. We often work with pelvic floor physical therapists, apps, and pelvic floor devices to address your specific concerns

Office & Appointments

What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring your ID, insurance card, list of medications, and any relevant medical records.

Can I bring my baby or child to my appointment?
Yes! Our office is baby-friendly—we just ask that children are supervised at all times.

What’s your cancellation policy?
Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a no-show fee.
